That’s right, it’s that time of the year again - Halloween!
Every October, Crane brings you ‘Craneum’ - an eclectic and entertaining mix of Halloween-themed workshops, activities, experiences and live performances. Last year we ran ‘tours’ through a ‘haunted’ office building, where spooky storytellers and giggling ghosties lurked in dark corners.
This year, Craneum stretches over three branches. Live performances will thrill, delight and terrify you. From screenings to readings, from dinners to dares across horror, comedy and comedy horror we are planning it all! We’re even supporting a good cause this year. On 28 October, drop in for Marrow 101 - a Halloween Carnival in support of the Bone Marrow Donors Programme, and run in conjunction with students from NTU (SG Marrow).
More about the Blood Marrow Donors Programme:
Every day, 6 Singaporeans are diagnosed with a blood disease. It could be anyone we know – a family member, a friend, an acquaintance. The reality of blood diseases is that it can strike
anyone at any time, even people who are young and healthy. To some of those affected, a bone marrow transplant may be their last chance of survival. If they are unable to find a match within their family, they turn to the Bone Marrow Donor Programme (BMDP) to seek an unrelated marrow donor match.
BMDP was established in 1993 to provide hope for patients with leukaemia and blood-related diseases. It is a non-profit organisation responsible for building and managing Singapore’s
only register of volunteer donors who are willing to donate their bone marrow and help those who need a transplant to survive. A bone marrow transplant is an infusion of healthy blood stem cells from a donor into a patient’s body to stimulate new bone marrow growth. It helps the patient restore the production of healthy blood cells for them to function normally.
Every month, about 50 patients in Singapore are on the waiting list to find a match for a bone marrow transplant. Their chances of survival can be increased if more people step forward to register as a marrow donor with BMDP. To date, BMDP has approximately 115,000 donors in the register and there is an urgent need to increase this number to help more patients find a matching marrow donor. Each day that passes is another day a patient waits for a life-saving match to be found, so consider becoming a marrow donor today – the sooner, the better.
Joining the register is easier than you think. If you are aged between 18 to 49 and are in good health, you can register to be a potential marrow donor. For more information on the Bone Marrow Donor Programme, visit www.bmdp.org. Drop an email to shuling@bmdp.org or call us at 6916 0370 to find out more!
Bring your family and friends along and join us for an exciting and fun-filled educational session through carnival games and activities! You will also get to hear first-hand from a donor on what marrow donation journey is like.
