Renowned multidisciplinary artist Zai Kuning has debuted a monthly series at Crane Attic in Arab St. If you haven’t caught it yet, join us for the next session on 3rd June! He will be performing originals from the past 20 years, both his own and those from collaborations with others.
Despite suffering from hearing loss for the past 4 years and constant tinnitus since 2021, this will be a prolonged effort to record and perform his work live in Singapore and both Tokyo and Fukuoka, Japan.
PAGAN HYMN is a homage to the late Kuning Sulaiman, Zai’s beloved father, and Tetsu Saitoh, whose influence had a great impact in his artistic life on the principles of self-respect towards one's own creative integrity through music.
Working alongside Crane as a spatial partner, Zai will play unplugged guitar and perform with hand drum and vocalisation.
The performance may be expanded with a sharing session of his musical experience and journey, starting in the months of May, June, July and August 2022 after which he continues this expedition to Japan from September 2022 onwards.
*Tickets are limited to 15 persons only.

“His tongue chanted a gibberish litany that vibrated
With clear emotional register. His voice of innate
Musicality stung with longing, lamentation and erratic
playfullness. He growled, slurred and thrilled the night
Into poetic cadence”
Tang Fu Kuen
